THE FLOW GENERATION BOOK
A successful life for me is to wake up with a big smile, proactive and healthy. It’s when I don’t feel that I am working because I enjoy what I do. It’s when I feel balance with a calm mind, even if I work long hours.
Currently, I could not be happier. Why? Because I chose to become independent. Up until a few years ago, I was working as a permanent full-time employee in a large international development organisation in Washington, DC. It was meaningful work: improving lives and fighting poverty.
But my heart also beats for yoga. I’ve been in love with the flow and the connection between the body, mind, and breath since my early twenties. That love became stronger and stronger. I started reading a lot about anatomy, chakras, meditation and yoga philosophy. Many times I dreamed about becoming a yoga instructor, but I was always so busy.
Isn’t it funny how we often say we don’t have time to pursue a dream? I was in my mid-40s when I finally did. I had reached the point where I wanted to find a new balance between the corporate world and the mindful world. I felt ready to fly solo. And if you don’t jump, you don’t fly.
Today you might see me wearing a suit and nice shoes during the day and in my yoga gear at night. I’ve also launched a jewelry design business with my sister (@CarpioStudio.art) and volunteer at an NGO.
Of course, it’s not always easy. I feel I hit the reset button every week. Sometimes, I get a project where I think I don’t have the experience. But I learned that I don’t need to know it all.
Even my parents stopped worrying so much. They realized that as long as I have Wi-Fi, I can do my job.
